Position Announcement

 

Falk Laboratory School, a coeducational K-8 laboratory school in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, affiliated with the University of Pittsburgh, seeks a full-time, experienced, and dynamic Spanish teacher (K-8) for the next academic year beginning August 2024. 

The educator filling this role will be responsible for continuing to develop a program that features progressive ideas about Spanish instruction.  The successful candidate will have a vision for dynamic approaches to Spanish education, excellent collaborative skills, and a willingness to support and engage in educational research.  Demonstrated proficiency in speaking, writing, and reading Spanish will be expected.  

A Bachelor's Degree is required. A Master's Degree or demonstrated work towards a master's degree in Spanish teacher education or a related field is preferred. Teaching experience with elementary and/or middle school students is required—knowledge and experience with ACTFL standards and proficiency levels are preferred. Broad experience is advantageous, as participation across disciplines and grade levels is valued at our school; specific experience with middle school students is preferred. Highly creative work experience in Spanish Language pedagogy is an asset.

  • Work collaboratively with other education professionals to support the learning needs of students.

  • Manage and supervise library staff (undergraduate and graduate college students) and parent volunteers.

Pennsylvania state school librarian certification is a plus, and strong consideration will be given to candidates with experience working with school-aged children.  Excellent verbal and written communication skills, as well as demonstrated leadership and management experience, are essential.

Position Summary

The Department of Psychology at Rollins College invites applications for a tenure-track Associate Professor of Psychology position beginning August 2023. We are seeking an individual trained in developmental psychology or a related specialty with a Ph.D. to join our collaborative, engaged, and inclusive faculty and to serve as Executive Director of the Hume House Child Development & Student Research Center.

The successful candidate will demonstrate experience and publication commensurate with the rank of Associate Professor; a track-record of management experience; the ability to lead a diverse team of lab school teaching and support staff and to develop strong rapport with preschool children, families, and other stakeholders; success in securing grant funds; and strong organizational skills and attention to detail. This faculty member will contribute 5 courses per academic year: in general, 4 Psychology courses (especially courses that contribute to our Developmental (DV) domain and courses in our statistics and research methods and/or perspectives in psychology series) and 1 course in Rollins general education, Rollins Conference, or Honors programs. We are also seeking someone who can develop courses in their area of specialization and demonstrates potential for a productive program of research. In addition to Hume House, a laboratory preschool, the Rollins Psychology department’s laboratory facilities include two human behavior suites and a rat and mouse animal colony.

Minimum Qualifications and Education

  • Ph.D. in developmental psychology or related field with preference given to research experience in early child development.

  • Undergraduate teaching experience in at least a Teaching Assistant capacity with potential to excel in the classroom. Preference to candidates with prior teaching experience as instructor of record.

  • Past management experience with preference given to individuals who have worked in a lab school setting.

  • Demonstration of programmatic research that does not require significant new research space, ideally with young children. Preference to candidates with an established program of research and history of publication in peer-reviewed journals.

  • Demonstrates an understanding that a liberal arts education includes a student-centered undergraduate experience.

  • Shows potential to effectively educate and mentor a diverse student population. Articulates the ability to contribute to and sustain a diverse and inclusive learning and working environment at Rollins.

Falk Laboratory School, a coeducational K-8 laboratory school in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, affiliated with the University of Pittsburgh, seeks a full-time, experienced, and dynamic Spanish teacher (K-8) for the next academic year beginning August 2024. 

The educator filling this role will be responsible for continuing to develop a program that features progressive ideas about Spanish instruction.  The successful candidate will have a vision for dynamic approaches to Spanish education, excellent collaborative skills, and a willingness to support and engage in educational research.  Demonstrated proficiency in speaking, writing, and reading Spanish will be expected.  

A Bachelor's Degree is required. A Master's Degree or demonstrated work towards a master's degree in Spanish teacher education or a related field is preferred. Teaching experience with elementary and/or middle school students is required—knowledge and experience with ACTFL standards and proficiency levels are preferred. Broad experience is advantageous, as participation across disciplines and grade levels is valued at our school; specific experience with middle school students is preferred. Highly creative work experience in Spanish Language pedagogy is an asset.

Position Summary

The Department of Psychology at Rollins College invites applications for a tenure-track Associate Professor of Psychology position beginning August 2023. We are seeking an individual trained in developmental psychology or a related specialty with a Ph.D. to join our collaborative, engaged, and inclusive faculty and to serve as Executive Director of the Hume House Child Development & Student Research Center.

The successful candidate will demonstrate experience and publication commensurate with the rank of Associate Professor; a track-record of management experience; the ability to lead a diverse team of lab school teaching and support staff and to develop strong rapport with preschool children, families, and other stakeholders; success in securing grant funds; and strong organizational skills and attention to detail. This faculty member will contribute 5 courses per academic year: in general, 4 Psychology courses (especially courses that contribute to our Developmental (DV) domain and courses in our statistics and research methods and/or perspectives in psychology series) and 1 course in Rollins general education, Rollins Conference, or Honors programs. We are also seeking someone who can develop courses in their area of specialization and demonstrates potential for a productive program of research. In addition to Hume House, a laboratory preschool, the Rollins Psychology department’s laboratory facilities include two human behavior suites and a rat and mouse animal colony.

Minimum Qualifications and Education

  • Ph.D. in developmental psychology or related field with preference given to research experience in early child development.

  • Undergraduate teaching experience in at least a Teaching Assistant capacity with potential to excel in the classroom. Preference to candidates with prior teaching experience as instructor of record.

  • Past management experience with preference given to individuals who have worked in a lab school setting.

  • Demonstration of programmatic research that does not require significant new research space, ideally with young children. Preference to candidates with an established program of research and history of publication in peer-reviewed journals.

  • Demonstrates an understanding that a liberal arts education includes a student-centered undergraduate experience.

 Minimum Qualifications

 

EXPERIENCE/TRAINING:

Master’s Level degree with a major in early childhood education, child development, or a closely related field; and at least five years of progressively responsible teaching experience in a child development program, at least one of which was in a lead or supervisory capacity; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

 

Demonstrated sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.

 

License Certificates/Credentials:

Possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate, valid driver’s license.

 

Possession of currant Pediatric First Aid and CPR certification, a 15-hour course in Preventative CPR and First Aid certificates.

 

Possession of a Child Development Site Supervisor Permit (or higher) issued by the State of California, Commission on Teacher Credentialing.

Job Summary

Serve as a member of a highly responsive team approach to supporting student learning at Campus School of Smith College. Support students with different learning styles by providing intervention and remediation; support teachers in their efforts to advance students with different learning needs within the classroom (i.e. regular collaborative planning meetings to support differentiation). Chair student learning support services (i.e. IEP meetings) and lead monthly Learning Services meetings.

Essential Functions

(95%)

  • Create lesson plans for students, particularly those with strengths and challenges related to literacy and math, executive function, processing speed, and working memory issues.

  • Provide classroom observations focused on students’ learning profile with the goal of offering strategies to enhance learning and academic success.

  • Communicate frequently with classroom teachers and families.

  • Keep administrators abreast of issues/specific student needs by providing both oral and written feedback.

  • Help to bridge current research on best practices in teaching and learning with classroom instruction.

Essential Functions

Classroom:

Plan and implement a curriculum appropriate for assigned grade level. Complete written progress reports, conduct conferences with parents, and communicate students’ progress and issues to parents throughout the year.  Work closely with teachers, specialists in the school (music, art, Spanish, P.E. and technology teachers; librarian; learning specialist; consulting psychologist) and administrators.

 

School Wide Responsibilities:
